A Day At The Garden

My buddy Branden and I went to the local Botanical Garden and walked all over the wonderful grounds.  The weather was perfect, sunshine, low humidity and in the mid 70's, very unusual for August!  The garden is a great place to relax, and enjoy the surroundings, flowers, trees, birds and waterways.  We found a number of tall Redwood trees, I did not think they would grow well here.  They have a membership plan, I think I am going join, and go more often.  Especially for seasonal events, like the Christmas lights, and spring flowers.  It was fun, great place and more enjoyable since I had someone to walk around the place with and talk about whatever.  Also I noticed it is a wonderful bird sanctuary, except for Eagles. They destroyed the Eagles nest because it interfered with the planes at the airport.   We saw a family of Cardinals, such a gorgeous bird!


There was a display of glass flowers scattered about the garden, wish I had thought of taking a picture of them.  Next time I go I will take my regular camera with me since it works better than the one on my phone.  Here are a couple of pictures.

 

 

 

My Plantdom 2013

This week I added a new plant to my collection.  A Hibiscus which I think is a beautiful flower, I have been wanting on for a while. It will remain in a container, I will be repotting my Azalea and may put the new plant in that pot. Its nice to have a patio with some ground, I have planted a few summer flowers as well.  I also put my chairs out and sit out there.  At least until I am downwind of the smokers! I may transplant one or two of the flowers in pots when we move.  I have a few less plants right now as some have not survived for whatever reason.  Most notably my Rhododendron, died at the old apartment, I think it was overcome by a disease.  I only have three houseplants right now, which is the least I have had in a long time, but I think I am going to wait until a new place before I add anything.  I need to gage sun exposure, plus it will be less to move.  Here are a few pictures of my "plantdom"

Plants are wonderful, soothing, and enjoyable. I was looking around at my plants, and counted 20 plants in my container garden both inside and outside. Its quite a task to water them all; but I love it. One day some will be planted in my own yard. I have a few plants flowering right now. (pictured below) among them are a Begonia (brought in from the patio in the fall) an African Violet, my Peace Lilly just finished a cycle of flowers. Outside I have three containers of Pansies in blossom, and my Camellia has numerous blossoms. My newest addition is a little Holly plant. I also notice my Rhododendron has a few big blossom for this spring.
